After studying ceramics and the history of arts and craft at UC Santa Cruz and having studios in Santa Cruz and Berkeley for many years, I started my interest in photography in 2009 when I got to travel abroad regularly. I discovered while traveling how much more aware I am of what’s around me when I have a camera in hand. I love capturing parts and pieces of the world, especially architecture and pattern.

My photography work is usually a study of pattern. I use black and white images to show the basic breakup of space and structure in a direct way. When it is possible, I include a contrasting element like a cloud filled sky but never photoshop one in. Balance, form, and framing all play apart in making the images work.
