DE YOUNG/DU JOUR
Since I rarely use brown paint, I almost removed it from the canvas but upon reflection the color looked familiar. It accused to me that it was similar to the aged copper color of the De Young museum building. Upon settling it in a colorful verdant environment I was pleased with the results. Also I was pleased that it was accepted in the juried De Young Open 2023 Exhibition.

About The Artist
Keith Wilson received a BA and M.Arch in Architecture from UC Berkeley and practiced Architecture for over 30 years. Discontinuing his architectural practice in 2001 he began working with oil paint and developed a stronger and more direct way of painting with the potential to increase the size and scale of his work. The paintings are constructed as they are being painted and he often uses palette knives instead of brushes
Artist's Statement
For me, painting is the interface or intermediate zone between the natural environment and the constructed world. These constructed paintings embrace architectural elements in abstract color blocks referencing my education and practice as an architect for many years. The building forms also provide scale and allude to the constructed process in which buildings are formed through the process of assembling premade elements in an additive creation process.
