About The Artist
Judith Ganz is captured by narrative. As a child navigating NYC subways, Judith imagined other strap-hangers’ lives. Later, teaching third grade, Judith created experiential curricula using arts and storytelling. And then as lawyer, Judith used descriptive language to bring her clients to life. Retired from word craft, enriched by NYC memories, inspired by the urban landscape of her Oakland, California hometown, Judith’s photography preserves a moment of time, place, person.
Artist's Statement
This photograph was shot on the abandoned Alameda Naval Station. I am drawn to the rusting architecture – the beauty in what was and what still is to be. Shortly after the shoot, I fell down some stairs. The light I had captured played with these stairs transforming them from obstacle to art. The climb may be perilous at times, but the light when you see it (divine perhaps?) lifts you.
